The Focus Association for Sustainable Development is an independent, non-governmental and non-profit organization.
Focus is committed to promoting comprehensive socioeconomic changes that foster a decent life within the planetary boundaries for all. We fulfill our mission through research, awareness-raising, advocacy, and participation in policy-making processes. We provide local and international environments with ideas about new possibilities for life practices and social orders.

What we do
Our activities encompass:
organizing round tables and workshops, projects, awareness raising, cooperation and networking, following the work of the government, its institutions and local communities, analyzing the developments in the fields of our activity, media work, participation in the decision-making processes on the national and international level, street actions and any other activity that contributes to the aim of Focus.
Awards & Recognitions
The Hrastnik Solar School was created as a pioneering model for establishing a self-consumption energy community. Its unique participatory and bottom-up approach as a democratically managed cooperative has earned it the SozialMarie Foundation Award as an important social innovation. The project builds resilience and represents a community-centered way of tackling energy poverty.
Empowering women to take action against energy poverty
in the Mediterranean (EmpowerMed), established groundbreaking energy assemblies, gatherings where affected people can meet and share their individual experiences with energy poverty, fostering the sharing of knowledge as well as solidarity and resilience. In 2023, the project received the European Social Innovation award.
The Hrastnik Solar School is a self-consumpton community energy project that includes 16 households, a municipal building, a school, a public pool and two retail spaces. In 2024, it received the national Energy Globe award as an outstanding project that promotes sustainability. The Solar School was established in close collaboration with the Hrastnik municipality and the local community.
