RENOVERTY is a LIFE project focusing on energy renovation of homes afflicted energy poverty. It is a continuation of our efforts to combat energy poverty that have been going on for over a decade. We will focus on the region of Zasavje, where the transition from excavating and burning coal has affected the region with numerous negative economic and social consequences. We will identify models for energy renovation that will suit the different types of homes of families affected by energy poverty.

RENOVERTY will promote energy efficiency upgrades of buildings in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE)/Southeastern Europe (SEE) and Southern Europe (SEE) countries by setting a methodological and practical framework for the development of renovation plans for vulnerable rural areas in a financially viable and socially equitable way. The project will design operational single or multi-household roadmaps for rural areas and a scalable model to ensure wide geographical replicability and applicability of the roadmaps in the CEE/CEE and SEE regions and extend it to the whole EU. More specifically, the project activities aim to provide tools and resources to support local actors in the design and implementation of financially sustainable roadmaps with the participation of all actors involved, which are then synthesised in a replicable model to be adopted by different stakeholders.

Strategically, the project will contribute to reducing the logistical, financial, administrative and legal burdens caused by the complex multi-stakeholder process of renovating a home and ensure that the renovation of the building takes into account the social considerations by incorporating safety, comfort and improved accessibility for citizens to further improve the quality of life of vulnerable populations. In the long term, the project will contribute to the wider integration of rural and periurban development.

The seven pilots will take place in the following locations: Sveta Nedelja (Croatia), Tartu (Estonia), Bükk-Mak & Somló-Marcalmente-Bakonyalja (Hungary), Zasavje (Slovenia), Parma (Italy), Coimbra (Portugal) and Osona (Spain).
